Broad River Watershed Association Board Meeting Minutes
November 9, 2010
Present at meeting: Victor Johnson, Jean Smith, Paul Webb, Mary Freeman, Michael Moody, Pat Kelly
Pat presented the October minutes. Jean moved to approve the minutes. The motion was seconded and approved unanimously.
Victor presented the October treasurers report. Pat moved to approve the October treasurer report. The motion was seconded and approved unanimously.
Victor then presented the rates at the three local banks if we move the money currently in the Merrill Lynch account in order to avoid paying the high fees they have begun charging. Pat made a motion to move the money currently in the Merrill Lynch account to First Madison Bank into a money market account. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously. There was dicussion to move the bulk of the money into a cd that would pay higher interest in June.
Victor has not talked to our landlord about the lease for the office. Dudley is looking for a place in Comer in case we need to move.
Citizens for Public Awareness are asking for donations to pay for the lawsuit to fight the Elbert County Incinerator. They owe $9000 in legal fees.
There was a good bit of discussion about how to get the Broad River Water Trail started. Victor will set up a meeting with GA River Network to see what info they have to help us get started.
The Annual Meeting will be January 8, 2011 to 4PM. Pat will check with Carly at Kiwanis to see if there is someplace available there. We will need a kitchen. Victor suggested Jacobs cabin.
Mary brought us fund raising. Jean said she will send out postcard notices to appeal to lapsed members. She is interested in getting an envelope with the membership levels, space for name and address to send out instead of the note card. Everyone agreed that that was a good idea. Mary is willing to write a letter to send to businesses to appeal for donations.
Michael said that the local kayak fishing chapter is willing to split the proceeds from a fishing tournament.
There will be ecoli and chemical Adopt A Stream monitoring training available in Athens on Saturday Nov. 13 at 9PM Pat, Jean and Dudley will be attending.
There was discussion on how the website although better is still not functioning like we need it to. Jean said she will ask the person who maintains the GA Horticultural Society is she could help us with ours. Jeff has been very helpful with ours but we don't feel like we can continue asking him to do this for free. His plate is very full right now.
