Broad River Watershed Association Board Meeting
Broad River Watershed Association Board Meeting
August 10,2010
Present at Meeting: Robbie Griffith, Jean Smith, Pat Kelly, Victor Johnson, Michael Moody
Pat presented the July board meeting minutes. They were reviewed but not approved because there were not enough board members present to have a quorum.
Victor presented the June treasurers report and yearend report which will be presented at the Annual Meeting.
Victor talked about moving the Merrill Lynch money market account because it now costs more in fees to maintain than it pays in interest. Robbie suggested using a local bank and moving most of the money to a CD to get better interest. Some money could be kept in a money market account for paying bills.
Jean explained that she has all members on a 12 month cycle to send a reminder to renew their membership.
Victor reported that the National River Rally is in Charleston, SC next June. BRWA has money to send anyone who wants to go.
Victor said that Jeff has put BRWA on Facebook under the name Protection and Management of the Broad River Watershed in Northeast Georgia.
There was discussion about which project(s) to present to GA River Network for the Paddle GA grant. Victor and Pat explained how it could be used to continue the ecoli monitoring of Shiloh and Scull Shoals Creeks.
Victor brought up establishing a canoe trail on the Broad. There are conflicting feelings about whether canoe trails fit BRWA’s mission statement.
Pat wanted to add monitoring of Bertram Creek and Broad River Valley Farm to the project list. It was agreed to present the list of the projects discussed to GA River Network.
Jean and Victor will invite the local county commissioners to the Annual Meeting and Fall Float.
Robbie asked if the site at Watson Mill has been reserved. Victor had taken care of that. Jean said Debbie is still working on getting the caterer. Victor reported that Dana Skelton from GA River Network will be presenting a talk on Water Trails in Georgia and showing the Paddle GA on the Broad River video.
The Fall Float is Sept. 25 at Camp Kiwanis at 11AM. Victor has the event signed up for the statewide Rivers Alive Cleanup.
Dudley is getting the nominating committee together. Sam has agreed to run again.
There was discussion on fund raising but nothing was decided.
