Broad River Watershed Association Board Meeting

February 17, 2010

Present at Meeting:  Victor Johnson, Dudley Hartel, Paul Webb, Jean Smith, Robbie Griffith, Becca Haynie

Pat Kelly was not present at the meeting. Review and approval of the Jan. minutes were delayed until the March meeting.

Victor presented the Jan. financial report. Robbie moved to approve the financial report. The motion was seconded and approved unanimously.

Victor paid $100 to support the Danielsville Folk Festival on April 3rd. Debbie will set up a BRWA booth.

Jean reported 12 new members.

Victor reported that registration for Paddle Georgia has begun. Meals will be provided for floaters: cooked breakfast and supper with a sack lunch. Most of the meals will be provided by the schools, by Boy Scouts and other volunteer groups. There will be a space for BRWA to provide a meal. Meals need to be for 200-300 people at $7/person. That would allow for $2-3 money to go to the meal provider. Dudley thought the benefit would not be worth the effort for that small amount of money. Victor will find out more about how it would work.

There will be a need to provide shuttles for people and boats. Also they need to know facts about the history and local attractions along the river. Some day trips to those local attractions will be available.

Dudley thought getting attention to BRWA during the Paddle GA float would be helpful public relations. An article about BRWA and their work in the Broad River watershed with possibly an interview of a board member would be a good idea.

Southeast Land Trust annual conference will be in Greenville in March. Victor sent out an email about it to the board.

Victor and maybe Michael will be attending the GA River Network Conference. He was able to use the scholarships that were awarded to BRWA last year.

Easement Monitoring will be March 13 at 9AM. One group will meet at Banks Crossing and one at the office. Dudley will send out an email.

Victor moved to put a link on the BRWA website to a petition from GA River Network to block interbasin transfers. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously.

Victor will email that change to Jeff and Dudley will try again to get the annual calendar dates posted.

Dudley changed the board meeting date to the second Tues. of each month due to a conflict in his schedule. The next board meeting would change to March 9.
